History

The history of our hotel

There are ancient documents to prove it: Alte Linde in Wieling has been in existence for more than 250 years. In 1730, the property was mentioned for the first time. Until 1865 it had been used as a purely agricultural site when Alois, the son of the founders, the Beutler family, applied for a licence to operate an inn.

There was a tragic accident affecting the building on 7 August 1907:
The building was struck by lightening and burnt down completely. The same year, the building was rebuilt with a new frontal direction which has been preserved to date.

It is actually quite surprising how the "Alte Linde" has managed to remain unscathed by the vicissitudes and events that followed.

There was no major change until the early sixties. Johanna (Hanni) Beutler decided to withdraw from the agricultural business which until then had been the family's main source of income. Instead, she decided to focus on catering.

In 1983, Martin Weidenhiller took over the country inn. When Johanna Beutler died in November 1989, this branch of the Beutler family died with her. We have named the Beutler-Stüberl in our restaurant after her, in memory of this family's long tradition in Wieling.

This was when we started to implement our first structual changes.
In 1988, the restaurant and kitchen were modified and extended, we refer to this period as the "big refurbishment project".
At the same time, we installed a state-of-the-art ventilation system with heat recovery.
Four years later, in 1992, we extended the agricultural annexe.

We created state-of-the-art rooms as well as storage and service areas. The beer garden was also redesigned that year. In 1993, the "Beutler-Stube“ was extended and we planted greenery in the inner courtyard. The previous sideroom was refurbished in 1995 – today we call it the "Martin-Stüberl“. In 1997/98, we finally embarked upon the next major refurbishment project. The old barn was removed completely and we put two storeys and a loft on top. We created 24 state-of-the-art, comfortable rooms and a little conference area.

In spring 2003, we embarked upon our most recent renovation project. For its 20-year anniversary, we gave the house a new roof, new windows and a completely new facade. We also created five new hotel rooms.
